As you may know by now, our Tearoom is celebrating the 125th anniversary this year. We have packed these 365 days of celebration full of wonderful surprises and new ideas!

Having spoken about our limited edition products, created specially to celebrate this important marker in our history, prepare yourselves for loads of amazing novelties, and new and original recipes. We have for you, as yet unreleased, four hamburgers which will make your mouth water.

Babingtons beef burgers

For our 125th we have decided to celebrate with one of our key recipes, long symbolic of our history. The beef burger.

The classic beef hamburger recipe has been an integral part of our history since the 1950’s when one of our waitresses taught us the recipe for “flattened meatballs”. A recipe that was all the rage in the United States, but was still unheard of in Italy.

And so it was that thanks to our intrepid waitress, Maggie, Babingtons became the first to serve this now famous recipe in Rome and in Italy.

Our Anniversary beef burgers

Our first point of interest is that Babingtons’ beef burgers all come from the best cut of prime beef. In fact all our ingredients are selected from the very best of the best.

Our beef is solely Chianina beef, from white coated, horned cattle which have roamed free to graze in the pastures of central Italy’s countryside for 2000 years. Its name comes from the Val di Chiana which stretches across Tuscany and Umbria. We purchase our beef from an historic butcher who has won many prizes for excellence. To this we add other ingredients you may have had the pleasure of sampling in our typically English recipes, eggs, bacon and real cheddar Cheese.

So here we have our very special 125th anniversary Babingtons burgers. Each of which is served with a choice of seasonal vegetables, salad or chips.

Our beef burgers are served between two soft slices of home made bread wrapped round 180 grams of the highest quality superior Chianina beef and your choice of one of the two classic ingredients of our traditional English burger.

Of course these have to be Cheddar cheese and smoked, streaky bacon. The first being one of England’s most famous cheeses named after the Cheddar Gorge in Somerset where it is made. The second is our cooked to perfection smoked, streaky bacon from Ireland. Also served with our traditional English breakfast.

The choice is yours! And not an easy one at that! Would you prefer your Chianina beef burger smothered in melted English Cheddar, or served with our luscious crispy bacon? I know what I’d do, I’d go for both!

Hamburger recipe: the Egg Burger

The third of our special anniversary recipes is Babingtons Egg Burger.

Once again our chosen ingredient to accompany your Chianina beef burger is the humble egg. A staple used in many traditional English recipes, for example the inimitable Eggs Benedict. So our Egg Burger recipe includes the customary 180 grams of choice Chianina beef, accompanied by a freshly laid, organic, free range egg and softly melting cheese.

Hamburger recipe: the Mushroom Burger

This is a recipe you absolutely cannot miss. The Mushroom Burger is made up of our, by now familiar, 180 grams of prime Chianina beef, accompanied by two ingredients which are also delicious served in their own, pan fried mushrooms and once more, our delicious and utterly satisfying streaky bacon. As with the previous 125th burgers this is accompanied by seasonal vegetables, salad or crunchy chips.

Hamburger recipe: which is your favourite?
